Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of compressor components and mechanical systems through the complete product development cycle. This professional will work on new concepts, advanced engineering studies, prototype development, testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires deep technical knowledge, analytical capability, creativity, and strong interaction with cross-functional teams, suppliers, labs, manufacturing and to ensure that innovative solutions are technically robust, manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with global engineering standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
1. R&D Design & Development
· Lead the mechanical design of new components and systems for compressors and related products.
· Develop innovative concepts based on functional requirements, performance targets, benchmarking, and engineering standards.
· Create detailed CAD models, 2D drawings, and design documentation aligned with R&D methodologies.
· Drive design feasibility studies, DFMEA, design reviews, and technical assessments.
2. Engineering Analysis & Simulation
· Perform mechanical calculations, tolerance analysis (GD&T), structural assessments, and engineering evaluations.
· Support CAE teams with accurate 3D models and design constraints.
· Analyse test data and correlate simulation results with prototype performance.
3. Prototype Development & Validation
· Define prototype needs, work with suppliers to produce parts, and support prototype builds.
· Follow laboratory validation tests, dimensional inspections, material assessments, and durability evaluations.
· Participate in root-cause investigations and propose corrective actions or design improvements.
· Support field testing when required.
4. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities for performance improvement, cost reduction, reliability enhancement, and manufacturability optimization.
· Research new materials, processes, technologies, and design approaches relevant to compressor systems.
· Contribute to R&D roadmaps, technology scouting, and benchmarking studies.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Work with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, CAE, Purchasing, and suppliers to ensure technical alignment.
· Provide technical guidance and clarifications to internal and external stakeholders.
· Participate actively in multidisciplinary development teams (APQP, PDP, Stage-Gate, or equivalent).
6. Documentation & Compliance
· Create and maintain engineering documentation such as drawings, specs, BOMs, revision control, and test reports.
· Use R&D and corporate systems (PLM/PDM, ERP, CAD tools) effectively.
· Ensure compliance with internal procedures and global standards (ISO, ASME, DIN, material norms, etc.).
7. Workplace Responsibilities
· Ensure proper handling, care, and organization of lab equipment, tools, and workspace.
. Follow Quality, Environment, Health & Safety standards and regulatory requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:-
. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
. Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or a related engineering field.
. Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:-
. Strong understanding of R&D product development methodologies.
. Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and technical drawing standards.
. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, GD&T, and engineering design principles.
. Ability to interpret laboratory test results and correlate them to design decisions.
. Experience with rotating machinery, compressors, mechanical assemblies, or electromechanical systems.
. Familiarity with CAE tools, prototype validation, and supplier development.
. Experience with PLM/PDM systems and prototype lifecycle management.
